The West Lothian Question can bore people rigid. But it has never been answered, and Tony Blair's forthcoming Education Bill will bring it back into the centre of British politics. It is obnoxious and unprincipled for Scots and Welsh Labour MPs to force on English schoolchildren education policies which they reject  for their own constituents. On 25 January I wrote the letter below to Gordon Brown - so far without reply.

I was interested to read of your endorsement of the proposals in the education White Paper, which of course would not apply to Scots schools, including those in your own constituency.

It cannot be right to deny to Scots school children and their parents the blessings which Tony Blair intends to confer on those in England. I therefore look forward to your energetic campaign to persuade the Scottish Executive and Labour party to adopt the proposals in the White Paper.
